Including the Twitter deal, SpaceX's "Idiot Index", the manufacturing "algorithm", management style and Big Tech beefs (Bill Gates, Larry Page, Jeff Bezos).
Has anyone also read Ashlee Vance's Musk biography and made a comparison to this book (aside from being more up-to-date about Mr Musk)? Wondering if I sink some time into this
Hey yep. Did read Vance’s. The pre-2015 stuff tracks very closely. Notable stuff post-15 that Isaacson covers well is production hell at Tesla and manufacturing details for Spacex. Also good behind-the-scenes stuff on AI and Twitter.
I got the book, but haven't read it yet. I'm a little worried that I'll have some of the same issues with it that I'll have with his Steve Jobs, but hopefully because I have relatively low expectations, it'll exceed them and be a good time.
btw, for anyone else reading this wanting more Trung, check out this podcast:
I'll cut & paste what I wrote recently on Twitter:
"mostly because I thought he was the wrong person to write it and it was a missed opportunity -- another author with full access to Jobs would've asked better questions and understood Jobs better, I think. Feels like maybe this is another one of those.
I think Isaacson is great (loved his Franklin), but nobody is great at EVERYTHING. For Jobs, I felt like Isaacson wasn't enough of a computer and design geek to truly get Jobs, someone who spent all his life thinking about design and computers."
My favorite bio of Jobs is 'Becoming Steve Jobs' by Brent Schlender.

Thanks Trung!
Thanks for the read, Paul!

What were the issues you had with the Steve Jobs one? I haven’t read it but just wondering in case I ever do
