Re: Apple Neo - Semiconductor binning is as old as building your own PC. When they used to sell chips at different clock speeds, they were same silicon but more or less defective compared to the "perfect" version of that chip.

I'm assuming a lot of PC manufacturers did similar thing: take degraded chip and reuse for lower end products?

Yes. An Intel i5 is an i7 where some chips don't work. An i3 is an i7 with more issues.
